PostSubject: Photographic memory?   Sun 13 Jun 2010 - 11:03

I have a gift, I recall the details of every numberplate I see, phone numbers also....anything with letters and or a combination of both letters and numbers.

Forum handles ID's also. Strange hu!

Smile I even recall my first phone number of which was changed when I was 8 years old...because they brought in the (9) which had to go in front of our old numbers,(Sydney) and for some reason or another, they couldn't do this for ours, so issued us with a new ph number.

I recall the numberplate of a vehicle that used to follow kids (girls) home from school slowly idling behind us, which when we would turn around, would take off really fast. Happened every day for about 2 weeks.

I recall the principle sitting me down in his office and asking me if I was absolutely certain the number plate was correct, or else an innocent person could get into serious strife over this.

It was a cortina, (brown/gold) had a shimmer through the paint work, and a vinyl cream roof...this and I gave them the number plate also...(fortunately, another witness verified the plate, or else nothing probably would have happened)

The next day we learned of a staff member having been sacked.

You know, to this day, I still recall the number plate, as though I just saw it yesterday.

Engine types, even numbers, anything with a code of some description...but has to be relatively short, no more than the length of say a phone number.

How or why?

I have no idea!

That's the only truthful thing you've ever said here, Melinda.

Maybe you do have a photographic memory? Trouble is, most of the time you forget to put film in the camera. Laughing

When I say every number plate I see, I mean, those number plates I wish to retain.

And it's not just number plates, it's many things really, .... like even brands of food products people use, if I see them cooking with them on cooking shows and so forth.
I can go shopping without a list, and forget nothing.

My mother is a "list" fanatic....keeps "to-do" lists for everything, whereas I never have and never will.

Anyone else like this?

No, (re- the no-life theory)... when I was a child, adults would marvel over my capacity to recall information, were always asking me "How on earth do you remember that"....I can recall every detail of having visited a relative in jail when I was not even 2 years old.

A relative who went to jail I was supposed to forget about.... (no, not my father)...another relative.

Well, I'd really love to stay and chat,Melinda. But, I'm killing brain cells at an alarming rate just by being here.

And, REAL LIFE calls, once again. Give it a try sometime.

Have fun chatting with all of your different ID's for the rest of the evening.

I might check in later to see if you've managed to make yourself look even sillier than you already have (not likely).

Ciao!

I think this is why I did so well at school, especially with tests without having studied.

I distinctly recall telling my parents, mum and nan, "I don't need to study, I remember it all"..... Well, this can only take you so far, as I'm sure you are all aware.

My son appears to have inherited the same memory, and my daughter also but to a lesser degree.

It's strange, I wonder if theres a reason for this... genetic or otherwise?
