This weekend, Burwood RSL are hosting Sydney's first ever Cougar convention, in search of Miss Cougar Australia.

I was just watching the footage on the morning show of some contestants (the talent) dancing around on a disco floor, OMG, was that a Hormone Replacement Patch I saw on the arm of one frumpy 50 something year old woman?

OMG!

Cool

Apparently one has to be at least 35 to enter the contest, .... mothers, lock up your sons, and what's the bet Yahoo CL is dead this weekend.

lol

How far away from Burwood is Hurstville again?

ahahaha

I think that green will out do both of them.

Its 2010, and green is the new blue.
Especially in winter with all the sneezing I do Smile

But getting back to the topic at hand, I mean how condescending, even the term cougar itself is rather predatory.
If they were male, the media would refer to them as being dirty old men, much like they always have.

It's another double standard.

out of respect to Burwood RSL's staff, I don't think I'd like to be their cleaner-boy.... having to paint scrape all the HRT patches and incontinence pads off the dance-room floor the following morning.

See, this is what happens to frustrated lonely old feminists .... sensationalism and Madonna hype aside.

What red-blooded (normal) guy with reasonable prospects would choose a nasty old nanna over a younger woman with ovum and her own teeth who is age appropriate?

What does a 20-something have in common with a middle aged woman life experience wise for Christ sakes?

You watch the line-up...the guys will be exhibitionists, those hoping to get seen (film crews supposed to be there) ...or despots ..those guys who wouldn't have the balls to approach someone their own age, this or aren't the full quid.

Grab-a-granny night at Burwood RSL.

My own mother is of cougar age..(though is married) ...and I would feel embarrassed if she were among those woman dancing around trying to defy gravity with their bolder-holders and HRT patches on in the company of men old enough to be my brother.

*cringe*

I wanna know, is the term 'cougar' offensive? It seems to be worn with pride in the states, but I dunno...

We have a Windsor Cougar, (Panther aside) ...and she lives just around the corner from me. One day when leaving to pick my daughter up from school I saw this woman from behind and though , "Who's that girl, haven't seen her in our street before"..and just assumed she was a visitor or something. But then she turned around, at which point my head nearly fell off...she was dressed like a teenager, facial wise looked about 50, and had a face full of botox ...and to such an extent whereby even saying hello back to me when I greeted her was absolutely frightful. Turns out this woman in newly divorced, (is new to our area)...and has spent her divorce settlement on a new property, sports car and having much work done. She is known to fork herself at the local pubs and clubs, and has a different guy..(usually much younger than herself) hanging off her arm each night.

Is it an empowering thing, a "Well if men can do it, we can too" her rich hubby might have left her for a much younger woman, who knows...or is it an undetected thyroid condition that warrants medical treatment?

See, "Cougarness" can actually be a symptom of dementia, hyperthyroidism or mental illness. Should we be escorting Grandma to the Dr's then?

Either way, most of those I have met/seen out and about who have "cougar" like tendencies celebrity or not, tend to be a bit 'funny' ....not quite right upstairs. But now Madonnas doing it, they are all crawling out of the woodworks...*Roooow*

Note to regular people who aren't celebrities, this sort of thing is only cool if you are a celebrity, not Betty Crocker down the street.

If only they knew what others thought of them when they tart up like teenagers and get all gooey in the fork over men young enough to be their sons, grandsons... *cringe* No not a good look, not at all.

queen GO HOME GRANDMA, AND WATCH THE SOAPS OR READ MILLS&BOON NOVELS INSTEAD.

cheers

Also, more and more woman are opting for hormone replacement therapy these days, this opposed to going through menopause naturally, ageing gracefully, like their own mothers did. My mums a bit this way (cougar bit aside) her not wanting to be in the middle of a work conference when having a hot flush so went on HRT...I wonder if HRT is contributing to this phenomena...libido wise? I think it's more of a socio-cultural trend thingy, given these now cougars were young at a time when they were right into wimmins-lib... demanding equal rights on college campuses.
Mid life is supposedly a time when hormonally, a females libido begins to wane ...they are generally married or partnered, and have settled down or are settling down into grandparent mode with their hubbies.
Professional or not.

But what if they aren't married, and are replenishing the dried up old well of mojo with HRT?

Imagine having your school-mates see your nan all tarted up down at the local RSL?

I just watched something on chan 9 (femTV) about it.. and most of the young guys that were being interviewed were yobs and of working but-crack class.

So here we have financially secure older woman dating young blokes for sex, because it's now "cool" and Madonna said so?

Hey Brockey...fancy a cougar or two do you? re- Fluff and Juicy Looooosie?

ahahahahaha..whazup, did they cut you out of their cyber sex sessions recently or something?

Razz Honestly, I wish they'd add you again....am sick of hearing about what's being purged on Yahoo.

Arrrrrghh!

Sorry Brock, but I'm trying really hard to discourage Carl/borns...and the CL slappers, they are embarrassing, and not at all a good look for our board.

No offence ..but do we really need another CL?

Smile and if we must...lets try and keep it to one thread at least... you know how they love the attention.

Cougar: Fashionable new word to describe mutton dressed as lamb.

Seriously, i don't know which is worse, the fact that they do it, or the fact that the dropkicks in the media think it's 'cool'. They don't have a clue.

As the stomach turns......

My sentiments exactly Vich....I don't know what's up with them, possibly some sort of residual fem- liberation thingy left over from their Jurassic days at college during the 60's and 70's...but if only they could see themselves....I think they might have one of those special mirrors.

Cool They chose a career over guys when they had the chance to screw young hunky men, and now it appears as though they are reliving their youth ...this and purchasing their right to mess with the heads of young blokes.

I actually know of a guy who fell head over heels for a woman 22 years his senior. She works, has a career, and he sits at home playing Xbox assuming the role of desperate housewife. They met at work, she was his superior.

He's not the full quid.. you know Rocky out of the rocky horror picture show?

All brawn and no brain...this is what we called the poor bugger when we saw them together at a friends place.

No pride.

Either of them.

Her kids are not impressed, especially her daughter who is my age and has two toddlers.

And I will just add...neither of which are my friends, are mere acquaintances I met at a friends place a while back.

Who knows, she's probably sat on him and killed him by now...she weighed about 120kg's.

It's such a bad look , whenever I see an older woman with a much younger guy together on the street, hand in hand... I think oooohh *cringe*

This might sound a bit sexist, but it's a lot worse than seeing an older guy with a younger female, so long as it's not too old of course. Ie Rupert Murdoch kind of old.

OMG, how on earth did he father that child...*head shakes*

Anyway....

I think some woman think that by doing this people will assume she is younger than she is...(they often dress younger and act all girly too) ...like in the case of Madonna... even after all that work, she still looked haggard and butch...much older than her toy-boy.
If anything, it stands to make them look even older than they are when people make visual comparisons and notice them more so.
