Making 'friands' is what life's all about... and whilst I don't have hundreds of friends or acquaintances, I do have quite a few long-term well established friendships, ie, those I have known for over 10 or 15 years. Bundaberg pays tribute to Trinity

Hundreds of people gathered overnight in Bundaberg's CBD for a prayer vigil to remember murdered schoolgirl Trinity Bates.

The eight-year-old's body was found on Monday morning in a drain near her home in the south-east Queensland city.

The man accused of her murder - Allyn John Slater, 19 - has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on Wednesday.

Police say Trinity was abducted from her home sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.

The organiser of the interfaith vigil in Bundaberg's CBD, Stephen Ball, says the message the community is sending is simple.

"To give the family of young Trinity Bates a knowledge and a hope that people in the Bundaberg community are supporting them," he said.

The main street of Bundaberg was closed as children carrying candles and glow sticks spoke to the crowd of their love and memories of the eight-year-old, and wreaths were been laid at the steps of the city's pavilion.

Opening the vigil, Pastor Roy Funu called on the Bundaberg community to support one another.

"I pray that as we go through this little short program you will be comforted, you will be encouraged, you will find peace and courage and I pray that this community will be united, like we have never done before so that we can stand together," he said.

Accused killer in court

Earlier, Slater did not enter a plea or apply for bail during his brief appearance in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court.

A group of about 20 people gathered outside the court shouting obscenities as he appeared.

Slater was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned for a committal mention on May 17.

Meanwhile, Queensland Police are monitoring, but not investigating, a social networking website set up to vilify Slater.

More than 1,000 people have now joined the Facebook group, flooding it with messages of anger and hate towards him, and sadness over Trinity's death.

And four people are being investigated by police for allegedly posting pornographic and sexually explicit material on a tribute website for Trinity.

I have heard 2 stories to date, one that some filthy mongrels had posted child-porn on her tribute page, and another whereby people are being targeted for making threats to this filthy murderers well being.
